Menopause Workplace Pledge

Unum UK signs Menopause Workplace Pledge

Unum UK joins over 1,000 employers who have signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge to support the Wellbeing of Women campaign, including The Federation of Small Businesses and NHS England.

According to recent research, almost 900,000 women in the UK have quit their jobs due to the menopause1. With this in mind, Unum has made this move to encourage open and respectful conversations about menopause symptoms, remove the taboo around women’s health and actively support female employees in the workplace to reduce stress and improve productivity.

This move follows Unum’s recent partnership with private health care provider Bupa to offer all employees with female reproductive organs free access to its Menopause Plan including:

  • 45 minutes with an experienced menopause trained GP to help identify symptoms, answer concerns and advise on treatments or next steps
  • A 15-minute check-in 12 weeks later to talk through changes and improvements
  • 24/7 anytime health line for unlimited nurse advice for 12 months following their first appointment

In addition, all employees and their partners can access a menopause-trained GP via Help@hand, Unum’s award-winning health and wellbeing app. The remote GP service allows them to book an appointment 24/7 with a GP after narrowing down their choice of doctor to those with a speciality in female reproductive health and/or menopause.

Jane Hulme, HR Director at Unum UK commented:

“Menopause is a natural part of life, and we recognise that it can have an impact on wellbeing in the workplace. We are proud to support our colleagues so that we nurture and retain the best talent and allow all our employees to bring their whole selves to work.”
