Unum UK joins LGBTQ+ community for longest ever Surrey Pride parade

The 2022 Pride in Surrey event took place in Camberley on Saturday 27th August and consisted of the longest ever parade route through Camberley Town, ending at the park event in Watchetts Drive Recreation Ground with Pride supporters lining the streets along the route.

Pride in Surrey is an annual LGBTQ+ event bringing together and acclaiming the under-represented intersectionality that exists within the community and offering the opportunity to improve and educate others on the importance of inclusion and diversity.

Entertainment on the main stage this year featured pop sensation Sonia, plus a diverse range of local talent including a George Michael tribute act.

With a head office in Dorking, employee benefits provider Unum is a proud LGBTQ+ local employer and community ally. The company was also Pride in Surrey’s 2022 Accessibility Sponsor, helping ensure that the event was accessible to everyone. This included priority entrance points for wheelchair users, plus a dedicated viewing area at the main stage and increasing the number of accessible toilets.

Jane Hulme, HR Director at Unum UK commented: “Accessibility is an LGBTQ+ issue as well as one affecting the wider community attending the event. We were privileged to be invited to share the day with Surrey’s LGBTQ+ community and are pleased to have partnered with Pride in Surrey to make sure this year’s event was even more accessible and inclusive for all.”
