Third party data sharing

Unum may share some personal data with other third party data controllers to enable us to provide and support our insurance services and to manage any business risks.

Business Categories: Reinsurers

Basis for Data Sharing: We have legitimate business interests as part of our financial management to enter into reinsurance arrangements to mitigate our risks. To do so we will share personal data with our reinsurers. Whilst this is typically on an aggregated and anonymised basis, there will be instances where we will provide personal data.

Basis for Data Sharing: We have legal and regulatory responsibilities to share personal data with our regulators. In some cases this will be specific, relating, for example, to a complaint, but generally any personal data is shared on an aggregated or anonymised basis.

Business Categories: Medical or Health Professionals

Basis for Data Sharing: To enable us to assess claims as part of the insurance contract we may share your claim data with your GP or other medical or health professional.

In some cases, we will also share your personal data with your GP prior to setting up a policy.

Where we do need to contact your GP or any medical or health professional we will obtain your consent prior to doing so. The personal data that will be shared will typically be your name, address and date of birth in order for them to verify that you are their patient and to ensure that the correct medical information is then returned to Unum.

Basis for Data Sharing: To enable us to assess claims as part of the insurance contract we may share your relevant medical information with independent medical examiners to allow the medical consultants/practitioners to complete a full medical review and assessment of you and to provide us a detailed report.

Basis for Data Sharing: To enable us to meet our responsibilities under the insurance contract we will share relevant medical information with Rehabilitation Service providers to enable them to provide appropriate treatment to you. We will obtain your consent prior to doing so.
