  • A robust process was followed in the selection of Unum Limited as GEB’s new UK employee benefits network partner. The choice reflects GEB’s strategic ambition and unwavering dedication to sustainable growth and operational excellence.  By partnering with Unum, a specialist and leading employee benefits provider in the UK market, GEB is significantly strengthening their position in the UK, in the International Employee Benefits business arena and in their commitment to delivering best-in-class and innovative solutions to captives and multinational clients.

  • This transfer covers the following Group Risk products:

    • Group Income Protection
    • Group Life (including Group Dependants Cover)
    • Group Critical Illness Cover
  • A Part VII transfer is a legal process under the UK’s Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. It allows insurance companies to transfer blocks of insurance business from one insurer to another, following court approval. This process ensures that policyholder rights are protected during the transfer. The Part VII transfer will only apply to Generali UK policies that have not yet renewed onto a Unum policy at the time the Part VII transfer takes place. The transfer will also include Generali claims in payment.  We anticipate this process taking up to 18 months.  

Policy administration, Value-add services and claims handling

  • Yes. Following satisfactory regulatory approval which we anticipate will take place by early July, Unum will become the administrator of Generali UK’s employee benefits policies and claims. This includes clients who are part of a Generali Employee Benefits (GEB) multinational pooling or captive programme. 

  • No. Generali UK policyholders will experience no immediate change. This includes clients who are part of a GEB multinational programme. Policy terms and conditions, existing claims, absence management referrals and delivery of value-add services and claims management will continue without interruption.

  • No. Employees covered under a Generali UK employee benefits policy will continue to receive uninterrupted service and support. Existing claims, absence management referrals, and access to value-add services will carry on as usual until the point at which the policy renews with Unum. Once the policy renews, employees will then receive access to the many benefits of a Unum policy, including a range of award-winning health and wellbeing services.

  • There are no immediate changes for clients, so your client should continue to contact their usual Generali UK claims and absence management contacts. Existing claims, absence management referrals and claims management services will all continue to be managed as normal, without any disruption.

  • Any complaints relating to Generali UK policies should be made to Generali UK. Only when policies commence with Unum should complaints be raised with Unum Limited as the insurer of the policy. 

Continuity of service

  • Continuity of service is the top priority for Unum, Generali UK and the GEB Network. Unum is welcoming Generali UK’s experienced team into its business, ensuring a seamless transition with ongoing service and relationship management from teams that you’re familiar with.

  • Your clients will transition to Unum Limited in one of the following two ways, whichever happens sooner: 

    1. When your client’s policy is due for its next rate review and they accept Unum terms, their policy with Unum will commence.   
    2. If your client hasn’t yet reached their rate review and/or not already accepted terms for a Unum Limited policy, their Generali UK policy will automatically be transferred to Unum Limited as part of a Part VII transfer.  You can find out more about the Part VII transfer in the ‘General Information’ section of this page.
  • As Unum has joined the Generali Employee Benefits (GEB) Network with immediate effect, you may start receiving communications relating to new pooling or captive programme opportunities straight away.

    Generali UK will continue to communicate with you in respect of Generali UK policies including administration and claims as appropriate, this will continue until the Part VII transfer occurs or Unum terms are accepted and all work items on the Generali UK policies are complete.

Rate reviews and quoting

  • Unum Limited has acquired the renewal rights to Generali UK’s Group Risk policies.  This means that Unum Limited will quote, in place of Generali UK, when a policy’s rate review date is due.

    • Clients whose policy has a rate guarantee expiry before 1 August 2025 will, when terms are accepted, continue on the Generali UK rate review terms.  Once accepted, your clients’ existing claims, absence management referrals and delivery of value-add services and claims management will continue without interruption.
    • Clients whose policy has a rate guarantee expiry between 1 August until 31 December 2025, and who have already received a rate review quote from Generali UK, will be offered terms for Unum's Group Risk products. Unum will honour the rate quoted by Generali UK.  

    Any requote request and/or change to the risk profile will mean that Unum may not match the rates quoted by Generali UK.  Group Life is subject to satisfactory receipt of long-term absentees and reinsurance requirements in order for Unum to rate match.  For all products, Unum will only rate match if it is satisfied following review of all adverse medical underwriting decisions.

    All other clients whose cover is due for rate review after renewal rights begin with Unum will be offered terms for Unum’s Group Risk products.  Once accepted, a policy will commence with Unum. Any Generali UK policies that haven’t commenced with Unum at the time of the Part VII effective date, will transfer as part of that process along with claims in payment.     As GEB’s new network partner, clients in a GEB multinational programme can remain within it once Unum terms have been accepted or the Part VII takes place. 

  • Please contact your usual Generali UK Business Development Manager who will help ensure your client receives terms from Unum.

  • If your client is not part of a multinational pooling or captive programme and wishes to take advantage of Unum’s product and services before their next rate review, please discuss this with your Generali UK Business Development Manager. They will introduce you to the appropriate contact at Unum.

    If your client is part of a GEB multinational pooling or captive programme, please also speak to your Generali UK Business Development Manager.

  • Yes. Any policies that have not already renewed onto a Unum policy at the time the Part VII transfer takes place will remain unchanged. The terms and conditions of the Generali UK policy will stay despite the anticipated legal transfer of the policy to Unum and claims in payment at the Part VII effective date. Following the Part VII transfer Unum will underwrite and administer the policies as its own. At the next policy rate review Unum will provide a quote for a Unum policy.

Multinational pooling and captive clients

  • No. There will be no immediate impact on existing Generali UK employee benefits policies included in a GEB multinational pooling or captive programme. These policies can continue without interruption. When your client’s rate review is due, Unum’s policy terms will be offered. Once accepted, your client’s policy can continue in the GEB multinational pooling or captive programme.

Data privacy and policy information

  • No, there will be no changes to the Generali UK Privacy Policy. Your clients' and their employees' data will continue to be handled with the same high standards of privacy and protection as before. The Unum Privacy Policy will additionally apply to policies it administers or insures from the transaction date.
