Corporate Social Responsibility

Quite simply, corporate social responsibility (CSR) means a lot to us. A strong commitment to CSR is one of our core values. We focus on providing a positive and effective contribution to the communities in which we live and work.

Our CSR activities in the UK centre around three key pillars:

  • Education
  • Health and Wellbeing (including Disability)
  • Arts & Culture

Charity partnerships

The decision over what charities we support is completely employee-led. The only pre-requisite is that the nominations must support one of the three key pillars: education, health and wellbeing, or arts, culture and sport.

Following employee feedback, we recently took the decision to extend our charity partnerships from one year to two years, helping us make an even bigger difference in our communities.

In 2018 and 2019, we’re proud to be supporting:

  • Child Bereavement UK
  • Ark Cancer Centre Charity
  • Halow

The Unum Community Fund

Unum's vision is to positively contribute and make a difference to the communities in which we work and operate in across the UK through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. We partner with charities and voluntary organisations to make our communities stronger, thriving places to live and work.

One way in which we strive to do this is through our corporate giving programme – The Unum Community Fund.

The Unum Community Fund awards grants of up to £5,000 for community partnership projects aligned to at least one of our Pillars of Giving, which help to achieve the following aims:

  • Help to build resilient and inclusive communities
  • Develop projects which will have significant, tangible impact in the regions in which Unum’s offices are located – Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Dorking, Glasgow and London.
  • Build long-term relationships between our employees and local communities
  • Develop opportunities for our employees to volunteer in the local community and enhance teamwork, communication and project management skills
