Dual Benefit: Unum has launched a unique product designed to minimise the impact that sickness absence has on your business. This new product - Dual Benefit - has been specifically designed to meet the needs of businesses that want to retain and attract key staff.

Employer Benefits

  • Monthly business income benefit providing you with additional finance to manage long-term absence of an employee
    - The benefit is 50% of the member's salary up to a maximum of £10k per month for 6 months for as long as the employee remains employed.
    - This can be used, for example, to help finance temporary replacement staff or to carry our reasonable adjustments to the workplace in order to facilitate the return of a disabled employee.

  • Provides professional help with return to work issues
    - Access to Unum's dedicated in-house vocational rehabilitation services which will help get your people back to work sooner

  • Tailored to meet your needs
    - Benefits paid from 4 weeks or 8 weeks
    - Provides a longer period of medical assessment and occupational evaluation
    - Affordable premiums
    - Limited benefit payment of 2, 3, 4 and 5 years

  • Enhances your profile as a caring employer
    - Making it easier to recruit new staff and retain current staff
    - Reducing your liability to legal claims especially with the introduction of the Welfare Reform Act

  • Pay Direct Option
    - Allowing Unum to pay the income benefit directly to an employee who is unable to return to work and has left your organisation.

Employee Benefits

  • Continued income during period of incapacity
    - A monthly income benefit equivalent to 80% salary (including any employee pension fund contributions)

  • In certain circumstances, an extra lump sum payment if there is no return to work
    - An automatic lump sum calculated at 2 x salary up to a max of £120,000 will be paid on the expiry of the income benefit period if the employee remains incapacitated from one of a number of serious illnesses described in the policy

  • Employees can receive benefits after just 4 weeks
    - Depending on the option chosen

  • Employees can be paid for up to 5 years
    - Depending upon the option chosen

  • Assistance with professional vocational rehabilitation services
    - Access to Unum's dedicated in-house vocational rehabilitation services
