As sponsors of Le Jo'g , a unique running relay to Lands End from John O'Groats, UnumProvident, the UK's leading income protection provider, is calling on all companies from the insurance industry to enter teams and together help raise more than £100,000 for charity.
This year marks the third running of the relay, which last year raised £80,000 for a host of charities. The event involves teams of either seven or 100 runners, depending on whether a team wishes to run just one 70 mile section or the whole 1000 miles route. Each runner must raise £200 and companies select a charity of their choice to benefit from the proceeds.
Jonathan Plumtree, Finance Director of UnumProvident, who leads sponsorship of the relay, said:
Last year, we fielded a full end-to-end team of 97 runners. Not only did we raise over £20,000 for charity, but we shared in the benefits of increased fitness and team-building. It was a fantastic experience for all involved.
UnumProvident has already laid down the gauntlet by entering a team of 100 participants to each run 10 miles of the 1000 mile distance between 12 and 25 September, set to raise more than £20,000 in aid of Cancer & Leukaemia in Childhood (CLIC).
