Pandemic Flu Preparedness

Unum is committed to ensuring the continued operation of our business in the face of a potential pandemic outbreak. As part of this commitment, we have developed and tested a pandemic influenza preparedness plan that we believe allows us to meet our primary objectives of:

  1. Meeting the service and benefit needs of our customers, including the ongoing processing and payment of valid claims.
  2. Providing for the health and safety of our employees.

Our preparedness plan is updated regularly to reflect findings from our internal scenario testing and new guidance from world and national health organisations that we monitor on a regular basis. We also actively seek input from external vendors, and national and local governments. These and other practices help us remain flexible and adaptable to meet difficult-to-predict circumstances. Unum continues to refine and improve its plans for a flu pandemic, as well as other possible large-scale events that could result in work disruption, in order to minimise the impact of these events.
