Adviser Bulletin - Group Life Update
September 2007
In Summary
This bulletin summarises changes to the current terms for our Group Life products for redundancy cover, late entrant terms and extended cover.
Following a recent review, we are pleased to announce some improvements to our Group Life policies which will come into effect on 1st October 2007. These changes are in respect of Redundancy Cover, Extended Cover and Late Entrant Terms which are as follows:
Redundancy Cover
This is the continuance of Group Life Cover for a member who has been made redundant and the normal maximum cover period has been extended from 12 to 24 months. Please note that if selected, the employer continues to pay premiums for these members. This must be selected at the start of cover provided by Unum and will apply to all members.
Late Entrant Terms
Our current terms for including Late Entrants for Group Life for benefits below the Free Cover Limit will now be as follows:
If joining within 6 months then only the ‘actively at work’ requirement applies. If joining within 6 and 12 months then the member must satisfy the ‘actively at work’ requirement and complete a scheme member’s application form for underwriting any benefit over £250,000 (or in excess of the FCL if lower).
If joining after 12 months the late entrant must complete a scheme member’s application form for underwriting the whole benefit. (All amounts include capitalised DISP).
Please note that the completion of a scheme member’s application form may result in further medical evidence being required.
No cover is provided for benefits being underwritten in respect of a Late Entrant until we issue acceptance terms.
Extended Cover
The requirements for continuing cover past Normal Contractual Retirement Age (NCRA) have been amended and are set out in the following tables:
